Halloween is coming up,right all the costumes, and candy is stocked up in every store, witches and skeletons are being paraded in front of stores.
Ah,people, halloween is something evil that ruins my favorite season fall...
You maybe thinking, "Wait, yeah Halloween is evil, but what about the Candy corn?!"
I do LOVE candy corn,I'll admit, and you can make candycorn, oreo, turkeys with them, but halloween has a deeper meaning then candy and costumes (and by the way what christian knocks on someone's door and says give me a treat AKA candy or I'll pull a trick on you? Just asking.),anyway the meaning of halloween is why I don't celebrate it which is what I'll be posting about.
------------------------------------------------------
I thought of something this year, the main holidays have an 'christian' purpose, but not Halloween.
Christmas's purpose is: 'supposed' to be about celebrating Jesus's birth.
Not: Santa and presents.
Easter Is: Jesus Reserecting from the dead.
Not: Easter bunny, jelly beans and chocolate eggs.
Even Valentines day has a ...well,somewhat of a good reason to be celebrated,it started with card company looking for a reason for more cards. But the reason for it is to celebrate a man who last name was Valentine and were getting off track here (maybe I'll do a post on that in Feb.).
Halloween,to the everyday families purpose is to get candy, dress up and have fun going door to door saying 'trick or treat' and maybe pulling a few tricks and scaring people.
But is that really the meaning of halloween? Some or alot of people would pretty much say 'Yeah, thats pretty much why I celebrate it."
But Halloween was started by Drewds who wanted to scare away the 'evil spirits'.
Which comes to the purpose of all the scary and creepy things being paraded in front of peoples houses.
The Drewds would put up creepy things to scare away the spirits.
It is now pretty much a holiday to celebrate evil.
You see kids, teens, and adults, dressed up as goblins, witches, skeletons, vampires, which is against the Bible.
I mean God said Scorcery is wrong right?! Let me show you two verses I know of. (I'm positive there are more though.)
2 Cronicles 33:6
Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger.
and another one is,
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.
Now,your saying well,I/or my children never dress up as evil or scary people,I was a ladybug last year.
Well, its not that I am not glad you don't dress up in the evil costumes, but that isn't the point I was trying to make. The point is the whole real 'point' of halloween, now I don't know how the whole 'trick or treat', pass out candy and dress up part came from. (my guess is it was a few big buisness looking for an oppurtunity to make money like Valentines day was.),but Halloween is a pagen holiday and christians SHOULDN'T participate.
Now,some of you live in the city and on halloween you may have kids knocking on your door, and if you do believe halloween is something you shouldn't participate in what should you do?
Pass out candy anyway and try to get through the night?
Hide away in the basement trying to block out the knocking and the ringing door bell with your tv or stero?
Or here is and Idea,I used to know someone who lived in the city and on halloween when the kids came to the door, she would pass out Bible tracks. Now I don't know if she attached candy to those tracks as well or not,but I thought why not take this evil holiday as an advantage to share the gospel with children and older trick or treaters.
And if you don't get trick or treaters why not invet some friends over and spend that night praying.
You could even go door to door on Halloween sharing the gospel with the people who open the door.
And do something like,"hello,I'm not here for trick or treating I just wanted to tell you that there is this amazing guy, a king actually who loved you,so much that he died for you,so that all of your sins could be forgiven and you have a chance to go to heaven." then hand them a track.
You could even buy these million dollar bills (not exactly sure where you could buy them at.) that have the gospel on them and hand them out saying,"Hello,I just wanted to giveyou this million dollar bill that has an important, life changing message on it.)
That is just my 2 sense on this 'holiday' that is coming up.
I'ld like to hear your thoughts on the topic of halloween, use this post as a little discussion post if you like. =)
P.s. don't forget to enter my movie quote contest,it ends tomorrow night.
4 thought(s) to note :
I totally agree with you. My family has never participated in Halloween. Not only are its roots purely evil, every Halloween real witches and people involved in the occult view it as the most sacred night of the year where there are literally children who are murdered as a sacrfice. You have the bad roots of the day but they're not just roots. Truly evil things happen on that night and as Christians we not only need to not participate in this evil day but we need to pray for those whose lives will be lost and that God would put a stop to the evil.
Thank you for posting about this. Too many Christians are to quiet about the whole thing and it's sickening.
Great post and great ideas!!
Love,
Tirzah
@ Grace,
I was goign to add that, but I knew I had younger followers. But yeah it is HORRIBLE,there was somethign on the radio about some guy that was born into an evil cult thing that they did that and growing up he DREADED halloween cause of some "really" bad things that happened to him.
