I was asked to review a book for Tyndale House and the book I chose was...
"So long, insecurity."
by Beth Moore
The Layout:
I was a little skeptical when I got it cause it felt like a book, but looked like a magazine with its whole layout. It eventually grew on my and I ended up liking the layout and I think a lot of girls would like it as well especially ones that aren't into a whole lot of reading.
The Content:
I loved this book and think it would fit the age range of 12-18. It kind of depends on the maturity of the girl. Some girls deal with it acceptance and worried about their appearance, self image at a younger age. Now some 18 year old may need a more mature book and think this one is to kiddish, but it hit on some good topics and was interesting.
Some of my favorite chapter were;
Fashion
Boys, Boys, Boys
Gifts and Talents
I think every girl should have this book on their shelf. It covers all the topics that girls go through and have a tough time with. I found it encouraging an uplifting to read.
This book also has test and each chapter starts with a question then it continues to answer it.
Overall I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
"Its encouraging, uplifting and a great book for your teenaged girl."
This newly published book can be purchased here; "So long, insecurity" teen edition.
Here is the description from the book:
This magazine-style book mixes words of wisdom from Moore with pictures, quizzes, surveys, scripture, and more to help girls ages 12-16 live based on God’s truth about them as opposed to the world’s false messages.
Features in each chapter include: Q & A with Beth (taken from adult book but written to appeal to a younger audience), Sweet Notes (scriptures that pertain to the chapter’s subject), Your Stats (a survey/poll of what girls think regarding the subject), Interviews with real girls (and a few teen spokespeople), a quiz to help girls gauge where they are, Bible characters with similar issues, and a wrap-up section for discussion with a friend or in a group.
Girls will have fun reading about boys, fashion, the media, gifts and skills, competing with other girls, and how they can live as secure girls despite the distractions from the world.

Note: for very conservative christians the modesty guidelines are along the lines of shorts are okay as long as they aren't to tight (same for pants.) or so short that it could be your undergarment. You get the idea. I still recommend it for young girls.
